How to report someone on TikTok, and what changes when the same account is on X

How to report someone on TikTok: open their profile, tap the Share arrow, choose Report, then Report account, pick the reason and tap Submit. For one video, press and hold it and tap Report. TikTok doesn't tell them who reported, and a report leads to a review, not an automatic ban.

How to report someone on TikTok vs X: report button, who is told, impersonation route, appeal

How do you report someone on TikTok?

You report the thing that breaks the rules. TikTok has a separate report for an account, a post, a LIVE, a comment, a direct message and a sound, and its account reporting article sends you to the profile for the whole account. We went through TikTok's Help Center again for this page, on 17 October 2026, and checked each path against the app.

So how do you report someone on TikTok when the problem is the person, not one clip? Use the account report. It puts the whole profile in front of a reviewer, while a post report only covers that video. If the account posts one bad video among a hundred harmless ones, report the video. If the profile exists to scam, impersonate or harass, report the account.

Can you report someone on TikTok if you don't follow them, or if they blocked you? Yes. Reporting doesn't need a follow, and if a block hides the profile, the online form below still works.

How to report a TikTok account, step by step

This is how to report an account on TikTok from the app. The same five taps answer how to report a tik tok account, how do you report a TikTok account and how do I report a TikTok account, because TikTok has one route for all of them. The "tik tok" spelling changes nothing either: how to report someone on tik tok, report tik tok account and tiktok report account all lead to the same screen. If you're asking how do I report someone on TikTok when the trouble is the person rather than a clip, reporting a TikTok account this way is the answer:

  1. Open the profile. Go to the account's profile in the TikTok app, or open it on tiktok.com.
  2. Tap Share. Tap the Share arrow at the top right. On the web, use More options (the three dots) instead.
  3. Choose Report. Tap Report, then Report account. For a single video, press and hold it and tap Report.
  4. Pick the reason. Choose the reason that matches what the account does, and a subtopic if TikTok asks for one.
  5. Submit. Tap Submit. The report then shows under Report records in the Safety Center.

On a computer, how to report account on TikTok is the same idea with a different button: open the profile on tiktok.com, click More options, then Report. A "page" on TikTok is just a profile, so how to report a page on TikTok follows these steps too. As for how to report accounts on TikTok in bulk, there's no shortcut. Each account takes its own report, and each report is read on its own.

X puts the button in the same place. On X you open the profile, tap the three dots and choose Report, and reporting a whole X account from its profile walks through the X version, including the help.x.com forms that stand in for an email address.

How to report a post on TikTok, a LIVE or a comment

TikTok's post reporting article gives the shortest path: press and hold the video, or tap Share, then Report, pick a reason and Submit. That covers how to report a post on TikTok and how do you report a post on TikTok, whether it is a video or a photo post. On the web, hover over the post and use More options.

  • LIVE: app only. Tap Share inside the LIVE, then Report. TikTok's rules say a LIVE that breaks them may be stopped and the host restricted from going LIVE for a while.
  • Comments: press and hold the comment. If you're the creator, you can report up to 100 comments at once from Manage multiple comments.
  • Direct messages: press and hold a message, or open the chat's options to report the whole chat. TikTok offers Report and block or Report alone.

X splits things the same way, a post report and an account report. On Instagram, the Instagram version of a post report is a closer match to TikTok's than X's is, since both apps are built around the video in the feed.

How TikTok's report compares with X's

Most of our readers know X's report flow better than TikTok's. Setting the two side by side shows where a habit from one app misleads on the other.

Where is the account report?Profile, Share arrow, Report, Report accountProfile, three dots, Report
Web form without an account?Yes, the feedback form at tiktok.com/legal/reportYes, help.x.com/forms for most report types
Is the reported person told who it was?No, by TikTok's own statementNo for rule reports. Copyright notices pass on the filer's details
Can you see your past reports?Yes, Report records in the Safety CenterUpdates arrive in notifications, no full list
Impersonation reported by a friend?In-app yes, but the forms only act for the person or a representativeThe impersonation form asks the person or a representative too
What a banned owner can doLog in, appeal, download dataAppeal form, read-only access for some suspensions

The row on reporter privacy matters most to people who write to us. For Instagram and X, who finds out when you file a report goes through the same question in detail. On X, the stages between a report and a suspension are set out in the X report-to-ban timeline.

Can people see if you report them on TikTok?

No. TikTok's reporting guide says it "will not disclose your identity to the person whose content or account you're reporting". If a video is taken down, the creator may be told the reason, and TikTok says that message will never include who reported it. Appeals don't reveal the reporter either.

So when you report someone on TikTok, is it anonymous? To them, yes. To TikTok, no: the report is tied to your account, which is how you get updates in your inbox and a list under Profile, Settings and privacy, Support, Safety Center, Report records. Can someone see if you report them on TikTok by guessing? Sometimes. If you're the only person they argued with that day, the timing gives it away, so don't announce it.

If you reported the wrong thing, there's no withdraw button on TikTok, X or Instagram. Taking back a mistaken report on Instagram explains what happens to a report filed in error, and the same logic applies here: a reviewer who finds no breach takes no action.

TikTok impersonation report: the in-app path and the forms

A TikTok impersonation report starts in the app. Open the fake profile, tap Share, Report, Report account, then Pretending to be someone, and choose Me or Celebrity. For a celebrity, you search for the real account. That is the quick route for a tiktok report impersonation case, as TikTok's impersonation article sets it out.

The TikTok impersonation report form is the stronger route when the copy is of you. There are two:

  • US: the submit-requests form asks for your full name, up to 10 links to the fake profiles, a 300-character description, your real @username, and a selfie holding a government ID. Under-18s can use a school ID.
  • Outside the US: the feedback form, under Report a potential violation, Account violation, Impersonation. It has branches for yourself, your child, a public figure, a business and someone you represent.

Both forms turn away the friend who reports for you. The US form's words are that TikTok "can only act on reports submitted by the person being impersonated or their authorized representative". Fan and parody accounts are allowed if the name makes that clear. A brand being copied is pushed to the trademark route, which works much like who may file a trademark report on Instagram and X.

When the same fake profile also turns up on X, the impersonation route on Instagram and X covers the ID check X asks for.

TikTok vs X decisions in the EU DSA database, 1-15 Oct 2026: notices, removals, account actions

What happens after you report a TikTok account?

A reviewer, or more often a system, checks the account against the Community Guidelines. TikTok's guidelines say "additional review will occur if content gains popularity or has been reported". That's a second look, not a verdict. If TikTok acts, the owner sees a notice in their inbox, and the account's status moves along a scale of Healthy, Fair, Severe and Banned, counted over 90 days.

The EU's DSA transparency database shows how differently the two platforms log their decisions. We counted statements from 1 to 15 October 2026 for both, using the public search:

1–15 Oct 2026, EUTikTokX
All statements of reasons4,610,767344,574
Started by a user notice (DSA Art. 16)3,3250
Content removed1,897,8920
Account suspended or terminated0299,934
Decided without automation718,313 (15.6%)11,938 (3.5%)

Two things stand out. TikTok files no account-level rows at all, so a TikTok ban never shows up in the database as a ban. X is the reverse: 87.0% of its statements are account suspensions, and it logged no content removals. User notices are a tiny share on both. Only 0.1% of TikTok's statements started with a formal EU notice, and none of X's did. Most action starts with the platform's own systems, which is why one well-chosen report does more than a pile of vague ones.

How to banned a TikTok account: what reporting can and can't do

People search how to banned a TikTok account hoping for a button. There isn't one. A report can only lead to a ban when the account breaks the rules, and TikTok's US Terms forbid using the platform, or helping anyone else use it, to submit reports that are unfounded. Its guidelines also ban "automation tools, scripts, or other tricks designed to bypass our systems".

That is the answer on TikTok report bots. Tools sold as a way to mass-report an account break those terms, and many of the downloads are malware. What TikTok mass report bots actually do goes through the repos and the sellers. The other meaning of "report bots" is reporting a bot account, which is simple: use the account report and pick spam or fake engagement as the reason.

When an account does break the rules and won't come down, the fix is better evidence, not more reports. Who can ask for someone else's account to be removed shows which grounds work on Instagram and X, and how Instagram removes an account, a post or a Reel shows how far apart a content removal and an account ban are.

How to delete a banned TikTok account

You don't need to. TikTok's ban article says a banned owner can still log in to appeal and to download their data, and that the account is deleted after a period of time. If you want it gone sooner, log in, download what you want to keep, and don't appeal.

Deleting a working account to escape a strike doesn't work either. TikTok says deleting content doesn't remove the violation. If the ban looks wrong, appeal from the notice in your inbox. On X, a lockout is often not a ban at all, and what “rate limit exceeded” means on X lists those short clocks.

When the account is also on Instagram or X

Each platform takes its own report under its own rules, so a TikTok report won't touch the same person's other profiles. These are the routes we point people to most:

Whatever the platform, save the evidence first: screenshots, profile links and dates. Then report. Reporting someone on TikTok is the last step, not the first.

FAQ

Can people see if you report them on TikTok?

No. TikTok says it "will not disclose your identity to the person whose content or account you're reporting". If their video is removed, they may be told which rule it broke, but not who reported it. X works the same way for rule reports. Copyright notices are the exception on both, because the filer's details go to the uploader.

When you report someone on TikTok, is it anonymous?

It is anonymous to the person you report, not to TikTok. TikTok links the report to your account so it can send you updates in your inbox and list it under Report records. The online form at tiktok.com/legal/report/feedback asks for an email instead of a login.

Can you report a TikTok account without an account?

Yes. TikTok's online feedback form opens with no login and has an Account violation category. The impersonation forms also work signed out. The in-app path is quicker if you have an account, because it attaches the profile for you.

Does one report get a TikTok account banned?

Not on its own. TikTok reviews the content against its Community Guidelines, and an account is banned after repeated or severe violations. Its own words are that additional review happens if content gains popularity or has been reported, which means a closer look, not an automatic removal.

Can a friend report an account that is impersonating me on TikTok?

A friend can report it in the app, but TikTok's impersonation forms close the friend branch. The US form says TikTok can only act on reports from the person being impersonated or an authorized representative, such as a parent or lawyer.

How do I delete a banned TikTok account?

Log in. TikTok lets a banned owner sign in to appeal and to download their data, and says the account is deleted after a period of time. If you don't appeal, it goes on its own. Deleting a working account doesn't wipe a violation, so it is no way around a ban.
